Washington rezonings
Every zoning map amendment the District's Zoning Commission has decided since 1968, read from the Office of Zoning's record, mapped to the lots and the areas it rezoned, and searchable by zone, ward, direction and year.
What the record will hold
- Every map-amendment case before the Zoning Commission, with the applicant, the lots by square and lot, the Advisory Neighborhood Commission and the ward.
- The outcome of each case, including the ones the Commission denied and the ones withdrawn before a decision, which a record of adopted changes alone cannot show.
- The zone before and after, read from the case description and from the Commission's order, the way Chicago's are read from the ordinance.
- The area each case rezoned, as the Office of Zoning has drawn it for most cases since 2006, and the lots for the rest.
- The Commission's final action and the date the order took effect on publication in the D.C. Register, with a link to the order itself.
- A direction for each change, up, down or lateral, on the zoning regulations' floor area ratio, with a table dated to the two renamings every district has had, in 2016 and 2023.
The decider here is a commission, not a council, so the record has no sponsor and no vote in a legislature; it has a hearing, two votes and an order. About fifteen cases a year, most of them a handful of lots, with the occasional planning-office rezoning of a whole neighbourhood.
